Raising money with zines and prints
Zines and prints for sale with proceeds to some great causes, and a roundup of answers from followers about how they combat systemic racism in their everyday work.
hi friends,
it's a really difficult to be chipper right now so I'm going to get straight to the point: I hope you're all hanging in there, staying safe, protesting in your own way, and having some really productive conversations with your loved ones. I know I've been doing a lot of reflection and trying to figure out the best way to sustainably move forward. we've probably all seen people asking that we make sure that the BLM movement isn't a passing trend and that we stay the course for the rest of our lives- fighting racism is a lifelong commitment.
in thinking about this, I asked people on IG what they are doing to combat systemic racism in their everyday work. check out the responses in the post and comments (and please add if you have something! I love hearing a variety of perspectives on this as all of our lives/ways of protesting are different).
i'm personally trying to be more transparent about money/negotiating jobs (artists, never hesitate to email me about rates- I'm always happy to share my experience), checking for representation on my sets as well as in my pictures, and buying more work by Black artists.
lastly, THANK YOU to everyone who purchased things from my print sale- we raised over $1,700 for National Bailout, NDLON, Decolonizing Wealth, and Southern Equality. I love y'all <3
this week, in the spirit of pride (which has always been a bit of a mixed bag for me) I've brought back the original Identity Crisis zine for $15 each with $2 from each sale going to GLITS, available through this sunday July 5th:
“Gays & Lesbians Living In A Transgender Society is a grassroots organization dedicated to supporting the LGBTQIA+ community on a global scale.” Read more on their about page.
making identity crisis (my series of self portraits) has changed my life for the better- while making this series over the past 3 years, I realized my queer identity, had an outlet to play with costumes and get rid of notions of what I think I *should* look like when my picture is taken, to explore fears and dysphoria around my body, to make art by myself or with my most trusted people, etc. it has been a rock for me and i'm very thankful to everyone who has said something nice about it.
this is the zine! click to purchase
one last update: I have a print for auction with all proceeds to Southern Equality. It's this fun one, "high on my own supply"
if you have the means and like it, please bid!
love you all thank you for being here <3
