My holy grail collage-making supplies
Plus early access to my HALLOWEEN COLLAGE KITS, and October portrait sessions. And more, as per usual.
Hi everyone!
Just gonna get right into it- today I’m sharing my best tips and tricks (and supplies) for collage making. Collage is truly one of the most straightforward mediums, and I’m sure if you follow me you’ve probably made more than a few yourself- its accessibility is part of what makes collage so special. But in case you need some inspiration or maybe a little kick in the ass to sit down and make something, this is for you!
But first! COLLAGE KITS!
As a thank you for being a beloved newsletter subscriber (I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again- this is my favorite place on the internet to connect with you guys), I want to offer you early, discounted access to my new HALLOWEEN COLLAGE KITS!!! They’re $6.66 each or $15 for the bundle for the time being. Take advantage of it!
Click here and use the password “madameleota” to access the shop!!! :)
These printable kits are made of 40+ collage elements plus 4 custom backgrounds from my personal archives- some were sourced from elsewhere, some are made from my own photos, and some were frankensteined to shit in Photoshop! I truly worked my ath off curating these for you guys and I think you’re gonna have a blast with them.
Kits will be delivered to you via email with a download link + printing tips and tricks are included in a PDF with each kit :)
I’ve found that I’m most creative when I limit the number of possibilities available to me when I’m collaging- what’s more terrifying than a blank page and stacks of old magazines full of hundreds of images? THERE ARE TOO MANY OPTIONS! These themed kits are designed to coax out your most creative ideas and be combined in a limitless number of spooky ways, all while giving you some helpful constraints. Please tag me in your creations- I can’t wait to see what you make 😈
And second: October Portrait Sessions
Same deal as the last sessions- $400 for one look, $625 for two looks and double the shooting time. Costumes optional but encouraged! Make your reservation by paying a $50 deposit here. Use code “madameleota” to enter the shop :)
COLLAGE TIP TIME
I made this PDF zine to be delivered along with the collage kits- like I said earlier, I know most of you have likely collaged before. BUT I often underestimate the value of knowledge that seems obvious to me (but may not be to someone else). So I hope this is useful to y’all- I’ll annotate + add product links and things too.
Products: my cutting mat, glue gun, scrapbooking squares.
self explanatory!
A note: sometimes, the laser printers at UPS/FedEx/even the library will often give you more saturated colors- that was my preferred way to print my zines for a long time, and likely still what I’ll do when I start selling zines again soon ;) I will say: don’t expect FLAWLESS color matching from the file to the print. They’re cheap cheap prints at places like this, so try and be OK with a little variation. Think of it as character!
Products: My Epson ET-8550 photo printer (GREAT value for ink tanks- I print a lot and the levels have barely moved), MOAB Matte Paper.
Some Recs:
What I’ve been into lately…
This super surreal, 1970s Russian fairytale film, Ruslan & Ludmila. I found a link to watch it for free online (I’m not going to link it because…scary. You should be able to find it with minimal effort!). The sets/costumes are insane.
Fashion show invitations by fashion label (RIP!) Meadham Kirchhoff. Like give me a break. Great article of MANY gorgeous invitations here.
I’ve been a fan of Sonja Ahlers’s work for years now- she’s an amazing collage artist who did work for Rookie in the early days. I’m super inspired by her book, The Selves, and was really happy to find her on Instagram last week. I’m so excited to get her newest book and dig in more. If you like collages/zines/poetry/beautiful things, follow Sonja!
Okayyyy THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE and for reading :) Please do hit me back if you have any questions about collage kits + portrait sessions or just want to say hi. Talk soon!
